Overview
During the 1950s, Italy enjoyed an economic miracle largely brought on by the Marshall Plan. Political division continued to plague Italy as the size of the PCI worried the ruling Christian Democrats and the United States.

1950
16 April - Guido Gonella becomes the Secretary of Christian Democracy.
1953
14 March - The Gazzetta Ufficiale publishes the articles of formation and power of the Constitutional Court of Italy.
7 June - The 1953 Italian General Election takes place. Christian Democracy wins the election by plurality with 40.1% of the vote for the Chamber of Deputies (winning 263 seats), and 39.8% for the Senate (winning 112 seats). The PCI was second place, winning 22.6% of the vote in the Chamber (winning 143 seats), and 20.2% of the vote for the senate (winning 52 seats).
1954
16 July - Amintore Fanfani becomes the Secretary of Christian Democracy.
1955
At some point in 1955 - The Constitutional Court of Italy is finalised as an entity, despite being formalised in the Constitution in 1948.
28-29 April - The 1955 Italian Presidential Election occurs. Giovanni Gronchi (DC) stood with minor opposition. He wins the election by Parliament majority 78.1% (658 in favour).
11 May - Luigi Einaudi resigns as President of Italy, he is replaced by Giovanni Gronchi.
1956
23 April - The first session of the Constitutional Court of Italy proceeds.
1958
25 May - The 1958 Italian General Election takes place. Christian Democracy wins the election by plurality with 42.4% of the vote for the Chamber of Deputies (winning 273 seats), and 41.2% for the Senate (winning 123 seats). The PCI was second place, winning 22.7% of the vote in the Chamber (winning 140 seats), and 21.8% of the vote for the senate (winning 59 seats).
1959
31 January - Fanfani resigns as DC Secretary. The position remains vacant.
26 March - Aldo Moro becomes the Secretary of Christian Democracy.
